Michael Ruffolo (he/him), MJ, HBSc.
Education and Media Specialist

I am the only child of immigrant parents and I proudly live on, and marvel at, the traditional lands of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlam) First Nation.

My passion has always been sharing stories and sharing information, and I have the privilege of doing that every day within the ISU. I am fortunate that my roles span our workstreams and I can pop in and out of teams to provide a unique perspective. As a science communicator, documentarian, and award-winning journalist, I have had my work published in print, online, radio, and television — with stories spanning the globe from my home in Metro Vancouver to Uganda.

I love photography, cooking, collecting, and being in nature. Scuba diving is a new hobby of mine. Being able to breathe underwater and having sea lions and octopuses swim right up to you is an awe-inspiring experience that I can’t properly articulate. I would love to one day collaborate with National Geographic and have my work published with them.
